The USIHC Leisure Riding Committee discusses riding as it pertains to the USIHC and its members who do not have a focussed interest in Sport or Breeding.
We want to hear what you're up to!
The Icelandic horse is known for its athleticism, heart, and incredible versatility—making it a true partner for riders of all interests and disciplines. Beyond traditional sport and breeding competitions, Icelandic horse owners across the country enjoy everything from trail riding and horse camping to hunter paces, judged trail rides, distance and endurance riding, driving, dressage, three-day eventing, orienteering, equine soccer—and so much more. The possibilities are as expansive as the spirit of the breed itself.
What activities inspire you? What resources would help you most? Let us know how your USIHC can better support you and your Icelandic horse journey.

Sea 2 Shining Sea Ride
The Sea 2 Shining Sea Ride is a virtual, nationwide mileage challenge that brings Icelandic horse riders together—no matter where they live. Instead of gathering in one physical location, participants ride on their own local trails, tracks, or favorite routes and log their miles throughout the event period, contributing to a collective coast-to-coast journey across the United States.
Whether you ride solo, with barn friends, or as part of a regional group, every mile counts toward the shared goal, creating a powerful sense of connection, camaraderie, and celebration of the Icelandic horse’s stamina and versatility. It’s a flexible, inclusive way for our community to ride “together” from sea to shining sea—one tölting mile at a time.
