For the FEIF Level l Exams:
All participants have completed a 3-month internship (cumulative) with a FEIF level III trainer or above. The trainer must be willing to attest to this in writing. Additionally, applicants should fulfill six of the following requirements:
- Earn 50% of their income as a trainer or work 20 hours per week as a trainer
- Be included in the national ranking or have a student who is included in the national ranking
- Have national Icelandic horse judging certification (FEIF Level “B” or above)
- Have ridden or trained a horse judged over 7.80 for ride-ability in a breeding assessment
- Provide a 500 word letter of recommendation that addresses professionalism, communication, problem-solving, and progress from a client who has had a horse in training for 3 months or more AND a letter of recommendation from a student who has been taking lessons for 3 months or more (please email letters to education@icelandics.org)
- Have experience hosting a clinic with at least 6 persons
- Participation in a demonstration of the Icelandic horse at a public event such as a horse fair or expo. Should include a thorough verbal presentation by the applicant of the special qualities of the Icelandic horse.
- Completed Knapamerki levels 1-4
- Completed Riding Badge competition level 2 and pleasure riding level 2
- Have certification in equine studies from a university or comparable educational entity
For the USIHC Basic Instructor Exams:
All participants have worked professionally as a teacher/trainer with Icelandic horses for a minimum of three months. Additionally, applicants should fulfill four of the following requirements:
- Earn 50% of their income as a trainer or work 20 hours per week as a trainer
- Be included in the national ranking or have a student who is included in the national ranking
- Have national Icelandic horse judging certification (FEIF Level “B” or above)
- Have ridden or trained a horse judged over 7.80 for ride-ability in a breeding assessment
- Provide a 500 word letter of recommendation that addresses professionalism, communication, problem-solving, and progress from a student who has been taking lessons for 3 months or more (please email letter to education@icelandics.org)
